Ah! So you’re back for more. We knew you couldn’t help yourself. The lure of tables and numbers was too much and you needed another fix. We certainly don’t judge you for it – we love tables and numbers, too!

Vietnam is an incredibly cheap destination if you’re a savvy traveller. It can get a little more expensive if you opt for some luxury, but even then it is far cheaper than what you’ll pay in Australia or Europe. We hope post inspires you to start saving and embark on your own trip to this wonderful country.

Accommodation

We stayed in guesthouses, cheap hotels and had one extremely enjoyable 4-night stay at a 4 star resort. Vietnam is super cheap when it comes to accomodation, and there is plenty of choice at each price point. Be warned, though, you will be using shoilets (showers next to and pretty much right over the top of toilets) for your stay. Tosh was certainly over this type of bathroom design after 3 weeks!  However it is, on the whole, a pretty good compromise for such value. Our total spent on accommodation during the 24 days we spent in Vietnam was $924 ($445 of which was spent on our luxurious stay in Nha Trang), or approximately $39 a day.

Food & Drink

Fresh, delicious and, most importantly, terrific value; the food of Vietnam was a highlight for us. $734 in total, or an average of around $31 a day. This includes alcoholic beverages.

We should mention that we mostly ate street food. It is not only the most budget-friendly option, but also the most delicious! This type of food does not suit everyone though, so plan to spend a little more that $31 a day for 2 people if you want to avoid street food (and the cheap prices that come with it).

Activities & Sightseeing 

For about $61 a day (total of $1468), our activities included:

• A 1-night, 2-day cruise on Ha Long Bay
• A TERRIBLE massage in Hanoi & a INTENSE massage in Nha Trang
• Temples in Hanoi
• Water puppet show
• Cooking class
• Bike hire
• Ecoparks & boat rides
• Trekking/caving tour
• Caves
• Theme park
• Leather workshop
• Temple tour
• Cu Chi tunnels
• Food tour
• War museum

Travel

We used Grab, private transfers, buses, trains, taxis and one internal flight to make our way around the country. It cost us around $34 a day.

Buffer

Again, we are very pleased to have included this category in our budgeting. In Vietnam we included expenses such as laundry, toiletries, bottled water, medication, parking, fuel, tips, and repairing a pair of Tosh’s shoes. We also had to purchase a visa for Vietnam, All-up this cost us  $265, or approximately $11 a day.
